September 28, 2010 Poway CA (North San Diego County) —10 of Sunshine Care’s Residents, 10 Volunteers and 4 staff members headed out to Disneyland! Highlights included Disney Trivia and prizes on the bus ride up, a festive lunch at River Belle Terrace, front of the line access to Pirates of the Caribbean, The Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, The Tiki Room, It’s a Small World, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and a trip down main street to see the Flag Lowering Ceremony and Big Brass Marching Band performance and of course shopping for souvenirs. Residents also enjoyed meeting Pluto and Donald Duck first-hand, Donald sported his jack-o-lantern Halloween costume.
The day, long anticipated, with planning beginning in back in April, was the first time Sunshine Care embarked on a full-day off-site adventure. “It was spectacular! Disneyland really is a place full of magic-- from familiar characters that make every generation smile to the time-honored American traditions like the flag ceremony with the marching band,” said Sunshine Care Activity Director Lisa Lipsey.
Sunshine Care CEO Sam Stelletello notes, “Disneyland never ceases to amaze! After completing my last grandchild tour I thought my excuse to visit was no longer valid. What a joy when Lisa Lipsey, our Activity Director conjured up a visit with 10 Alzheimer’s patients to Mickey & Minnie Land. Once again, Walt’s magic enthralled the entire group. What a joy it was to see their smiling faces inspired by memories of past visits to the happiest place on earth. The detailed planning, one to one care ratio and Disney’s customer service made the day magic.”
